DESCRIPTION:There is nowhere in the Alps which has such a high concentration of 4000m peaks than the Monte Rosa group. On our list of objectives this week we have Pyramid Vincent 4215m\, Balmenhorn 4167m\, Parrotspitze 4436m\, Ludswighohe 4341m\, Signalkuppe 4556m\, Corno Nero 4322m and the Zumsteinspitze 4563m. This region of lofty summits\, once very remote\, is now easily accessible from the Italian side by a comprehensive lift and hut system; it offers many straight-forward glaciated peaks that can be within the grasp of any fit and acclimatised trekker. It also hosts the highest mountain refuge in the Alps; on the summit of the Signalkuppe\, stands the impressive Rifugio Margherita 4556m. From the balcony you can stare down one of the biggest faces found in the Alps – 2500m of space below you. To the south stretches the huge plain of the River Po of northern Italy\, as for the rest\, it is all mountains as far as you can see…

DESCRIPTION:A simply unbeatable walking holiday\, adventure trekking high in the Swiss-Italian Alps with easy climbing to Alpine summits. This fantastic walking and climbing holiday begins with an afternoon of Alpine glacier skills training at the Gandegg Hut above Zermatt\, in the shadow of the iconic Matterhorn. The Breithorn (4164m) is our first climbing objective\, before trekking the long descent into Italy’s picturesque Valle di Gressoney. Walking back up to the lively Gnifetti Refuge\, high on the south side of Monte Rosa\, sets us up for one of the finest of all trekking days in the Italian Alps\, traversing the Lisjoch/Colle del Lys into Switzerland. Depending on conditions\, we will also make the straightforward ascent of the Parrot Spitz or Ludwigs Spitz before bringing this fantastic high level route to a conclusion with a descent into Zermatt. With an overnight at the Monte Rosa Alpine Hut\, a little oasis of green amongst the towering giants of the Swiss-Italian frontier ridge. Alpine walking and straightforward climbing doesn’t get any better than this!

SUMMARY:Off piste and day tours – places available!
DESCRIPTION:4 days hunting the best snow conditions in the western Alps. We will start with a warm up day in Chamonix and then either stay in France or take the magic tunnel to Italy. \nThe snow cover this year is truly special\, with good cover everywhere. I have had some amazing skiing so far\, particularly in the Courmayeur and Gressoney areas in Val d’Aosta. \nTree Action in Italy\, January 2018. Skier: Stuart Galbraith\n  \nThe plan for this 4 day experience is to meet in Chamonix on the evening of the 18th Feb\, ski in the valley on the 19th\, and then take a decision at the last minute as to where to go\, based on weather and conditions. We will spend the nights of the 20th and 21st in a hut or a mountain hotel\, doing day tours with about 1000m of skinning and descents on terrain around 30º. We will return to the Chamonix valley on the evening of 22nd February. \nWe have spaces for up to 6 skiers on the trip. \nDay touring in France\, February 2017. Ski tourer: Anne Winther\nCosts will clearly depend on the size of the group and where exactly we end up. As a guideline\, Here are the guiding costs per head. These include hire of avalanche safety kit\, glacier safety kit and all the guides expenses in the Chamonix valley. \n  \nTo this you’ll need to add 4 days of uplift for yourself\, accommodation for 5 nights\, a share of the guide’s accommodation for 2 or 3 nights depending on where we end up\, and travel to wherever the best snow is! DESCRIPTION:THIS TOUR IS FULLY BOOKED\n\nVal Stura is just south of the more well-known Val Maira. It has more snow\, less people\, a single chair lift and stunning ski touring terrain.\n\n\n\n\n\nIn early winter\, it is often the case that Val Stura sees big storms coming up from the Mediterranean. I was on reconnaissance to the area in January 2017 when conditions elsewhere in the Alps were dreadful to non-existent\, and found excellent powder down to road level. \nIt is currently below the radar compared to nearby Val Maira\, but my observation is that the ski touring is equally good\, if not better in some respects. It has a small ski area that can boost us to 2500m to give both off piste and side country options as well as more classic day tour itineraries from the road. \n\nLise Tonelli caning it in Val Stura. DESCRIPTION:There are two principal aims of this course: \n\nTo ski glacial terrain in such a way as to avoid going into a slot and what to do if you or one of your buddies does so. \nGlacial snow can be some of the best in the world. It can also be extremely challenging. You might as well ski it well. While we’re skiing around\, we will also examine both the fundamentals of effective ski technique and some coping strategies when it’s all getting a bit out of hand.
