SUMMARY:Off piste and day tours – places available!
DESCRIPTION:4 days hunting the best snow conditions in the western Alps. We will start with a warm up day in Chamonix and then either stay in France or take the magic tunnel to Italy. \nThe snow cover this year is truly special\, with good cover everywhere. I have had some amazing skiing so far\, particularly in the Courmayeur and Gressoney areas in Val d’Aosta. \nTree Action in Italy\, January 2018. Skier: Stuart Galbraith\n  \nThe plan for this 4 day experience is to meet in Chamonix on the evening of the 18th Feb\, ski in the valley on the 19th\, and then take a decision at the last minute as to where to go\, based on weather and conditions. We will spend the nights of the 20th and 21st in a hut or a mountain hotel\, doing day tours with about 1000m of skinning and descents on terrain around 30º. We will return to the Chamonix valley on the evening of 22nd February. \nWe have spaces for up to 6 skiers on the trip. \nDay touring in France\, February 2017. Ski tourer: Anne Winther\nCosts will clearly depend on the size of the group and where exactly we end up. As a guideline\, Here are the guiding costs per head. These include hire of avalanche safety kit\, glacier safety kit and all the guides expenses in the Chamonix valley. \n  \nTo this you’ll need to add 4 days of uplift for yourself\, accommodation for 5 nights\, a share of the guide’s accommodation for 2 or 3 nights depending on where we end up\, and travel to wherever the best snow is! SUMMARY:Val Stura day touring - FULL
DESCRIPTION:THIS TOUR IS FULLY BOOKED\n\nVal Stura is just south of the more well-known Val Maira. It has more snow\, less people\, a single chair lift and stunning ski touring terrain.\n\n\n\n\n\nIn early winter\, it is often the case that Val Stura sees big storms coming up from the Mediterranean. I was on reconnaissance to the area in January 2017 when conditions elsewhere in the Alps were dreadful to non-existent\, and found excellent powder down to road level. \nIt is currently below the radar compared to nearby Val Maira\, but my observation is that the ski touring is equally good\, if not better in some respects. It has a small ski area that can boost us to 2500m to give both off piste and side country options as well as more classic day tour itineraries from the road. \n\nLise Tonelli caning it in Val Stura.
